  4. Enhancement:
  5.  
  6. 1. When using the Select button in the Submitter to add URLs to the list of URLs available 
  7. for submission, you can now hold the shift can down and highlight multiple files at once in 
  8. the selection dialog box.  This makes it much more efficient to in adding multiple files to 
  9. the selection list.
  10.  
  11. Fixes:
  12. 1. This version restores the submitter selection method to the way it worked in 1.50.1 and 
  13. earlier.  Most people find the old method of selecting URLs easier.
  14. 2. An intermittent bug in the Page Critic using the Top XX calculation caused the body 
  15. text words and frequency statistics to be reported higher than they actually were.  This 
  16. has been corrected.  If you frequently make use of the TOP XX averages for optimizing your 
  17. pages, you may want to re-analyze your pages to make sure they are within recommended limits.

  21. Enhancements:
  22.  
  23. 1. Reporter searches are up to TWICE as fast as prior versions when using high speed connections 
  24. (i.e., 128Kps or greater).  Performance is about the same for 56Kps or slower connections. 
  25. Connections may also be more reliable in general, resulting in fewer failed searches.  
  26. You may also find Submitter mission performance to be better on high speed connections.
  27. 2. The Submitter now has a new checkbox to allow you to limit submissions to only 1 URL per 
  28. day per engine regardless of the limits of each search engine.  Some search engine consultants 
  29. believe that limiting submissions to one URL per day is safer and will actually get you listed 
  30. faster than submitting the maximum recommended limits.  You may check this box and then schedule
  31. a mission to run daily so that one URL will be submitted per day automatically.  If you've had 
  32. any trouble getting your site listed in the expected amount of time, try this feature!
  33. 3. Socks 4 and Socks 5 proxy protocols are now supported on the Connections window.  Select 
  34. one of these if you are unable to connect using WebPosition and your network uses a Socks proxy.
  35. 4. The log report now lists Reporter mission times in hours, minutes, and seconds rather than 
  36. just in seconds for easier readability.
  37. 5. The Upload Manager now has a checkbox to remove archived report links from the menu page 
  38. which is useful for consultants who post results for viewing by their clients.  Therefore, 
  39. you can now automatically remove archived report links from the menu page before uploading 
  40. them to your Web site for viewing by clients.

  42. Upgrade Note:  We still continue to focus the bulk of our development efforts on version 2 
  43. of WebPosition Gold.  Therefore, most of the enhancements we've been working on you've not 
  44. yet seen.  This much anticipated upgrade will include support for dozens, if not hundreds 
  45. of new requested features.  We'll post additional news as it becomes available!

  49. 1. Netscape compatibility in the Reporter has been restored.  
  50. 2. Nearly every reported bug over the last several months has been corrected in this version.  
  51. There are too many items to list here.  Suffice it to stay, accuracy and reliability in all 
  52. modules of the program have been improved.  Most fixes were infrequent or obscure in nature.  
  53. If you find a bug that has not been fixed, please e-mail us and let us know!  We are very 
  54. serious about maintaining a reliable and bug-free product.

  58. 1. URL Verification report now display Unknown for Snap submission dates since Snap is submitted 
  59. manually and not by the software.
  60. 2. Some minor accuracy issues in the Page Critic have been fixed including where the word count 
  61. for the title or meta tags was sometimes off a little.
  62. 3. Rare date related bug with the scheduler is fixed.
  63. 4. Various other reported bugs have been fixed.  Most of them are very rare scenarios.

  67. 1. A bug with certain date formats caused reports to be archived in June with an invalid year 
  68. like 1905.  This occurred on the links at the bottom of the menu.htm page of the Reporter 
  69. results if you have archiving turned on.  The results were accurately archived, but the report 
  70. dates displayed on this page were sometimes incorrect.  This should now be fixed.
  71. 2. Version 1.40.8 had a bad template file for the Page Generator causing all default pages to 
  72. be generated with a black background and magenta text.  This has been corrected.
  73. 3. The Alert report now has a new table to show positions that you had that later dropped 
  74. completely out of the top 30 or top XX matches.  In the past, the Alert report showed positions 
  75. that dropped, but only if they remained in the top XX matches that were scanned.
  76. 4. Various other rare problems corrected.

  139. 1. Open Directory compatibility has been restored in the Reporter.

  141. 2. Over 30 reported issues have been addressed in this version.  Most items were to fix errors 
  142. that occurred under obscure conditions.  A few enhancements were made to make the program more 
  143. user-friendly.  For example, if you listed duplicate keywords in the Reporter in previous 
  144. versions, a message would appear asking you to remove the duplications.  This new version 
  145. will automatically remove the duplicates for you.

  147. 3. Issues with the scheduler have been addressed to avoid problems with foreign date formats 
  148. and to support longer path names.
  149.  
  150. 4. Accuracy of the last position column in the Reporter has been improved.  
  151.  
  152. 5. The Page Generator default template has been revised to no longer generate pages with 
  153. 'boiler-plate' phrases that are the same for all pages.  This has been done to avoid possible 
  154. discrimination on AltaVista and potentially other engines.  It's recommended any existing 
  155. pages you have that contain phrases on the following URL be revised:

  158. The Page Critic will also warn you for any pages it analyzes containing those phrases.

  160. 6. The last submission date column in the URL verification report is now accurate for engines 
  161. that "share" the same submission date such as Inktomi based engines like HotBot, AOL, and 
  162. Goto.com.

  164. 7. Support for longer URLs in all modules of the program has been added.

  166. 8. Support for the creation of network paths like \\server\c\mydirectory\ has been added to all 
  167. modules.

  169. 9. Page Critic advice has been fine-tuned to work better in certain scenarios.  In addition, 
  170. prominence for the body area should now be calculated correctly in all cases.

  172. As always, we're open to your feedback on how to improve the product.  Our goal is to 
  173. continually improve WebPosition Gold to meet your needs.

  177. 1. Reporter now multi-tasks more effectively so that it does not demand full use of the 
  178. computer when entering the generating reports phase of a mission.  In the past for very large 
  179. missions, some people thought that the Reporter may have locked up when in fact it had not.
